Our Lady of Mount Carmel Primary School, Waterloo - Administration

Location: Waterloo, NSW
Completion Date: 2022
Cost: $0.9M
Engagement: Concept Design, Schematic Design, Documentation, Services During Construction

This project involved the adaptive reuse of an existing unutilised building to create a ‘Front Door’ and administration office.

The brief was to create a welcoming Catholic face to the school that celebrates their diverse learning community. The administration reflects the school’s ethos and care model for its students through a series of detailed design touch points which columinates in the ‘'Wall of Us’' which celebrates each and every student

The new ‘front door’ to the this beautiful inner city school in Waterloo encourages parents, grand parents and family members to gather in a pocket park while they either drop off their children or pick them up. This space also gives the school the opportunity to meet outside when the weather warrants this.

References to the School’s Catholic Charism are woven throughout various elements of the space with a combination of timber screens, ceiling and floor finishes creating a physical and metaphorical vision within the space.

Biophilic design and connections to nature help support the wellbeing of the talented team of adminstration and teachers through the extensive use of timber, natural light, fresh air and plants.

This is the first stage of a multistage upgrade.
