Change and the Learning Environment by Daniel Smith

As the world changes in an exponential manner, so do the needs of our learners.

Our learners need to develop skills that encourages their curious mind, challenges the norm, perseveres through problems with developed soft skills and critical thinking.

The Impact of space can have measurable impacts, so this is why we believe that we should challenge the current design thinking and focus on innovation, research and pedagogy.

STEM in Schools by Daniel Smith

As the National conversation has shifted towards STEM, the design of schools has equally shifted from places of instruction to open-ended inquiry.

Leaf Architecture STEM

We have been exploring the principles of STEM to enable collaborative education models to take shape. This approach has unpacked interesting observations by promoting technology to subsequently enabling a more hands-on creative learning style. By enabling learners the space and time to explore their subject matter, they can familiarise themselves with a broad range of content whilst viewing their learning through a critical thinking lens.

STEM is now ingrained in the national curriculum and must be taken seriously with any TAS design and especially within any master plan for a new or developing school. Encouraging curiosity is the key driver and limiting barriers is our goal.

We have recently been working with a number of schools within Western Sydney as they redefine their take on Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Learning is celebrated through artful displays, whilst the core zones are kept multi-functional to remove any barriers to a curious mind unpacking open-ended questions. All surfaces are now working hard to enable and encourage effective communication, thereby adding another dimension to the learning.

This is the 4 Cs at work through the lens of STEM.
